The Great Georgia Airshow

As the morning sun slowly peeks over the trees , the buzzing, humming and rustling beging to resonate to wake the brisk fall Saturday morning. Vender's begin rolling back the dew laiden flaps of their tents and eager spectators jockey for the best positions to take on the days events. Sausage bisquits, country ham and coffee are ready to give the boost needed to take on the day.

As the day grows older, Hot Dogs, Bar-B-Que, nachos and soft drinks replace the morning menu and you know it is about that time. The unique smell of 100ll and jet fuel begin to drift down the ramp as the crowd inches ever so closer to airshow center. Then that old familiar sound quiets the crowd. First that high pitched scream from the starter - "wwwwwwwwwhhhhiiinnnnn" and that old sleeping friend begins to stir - "cloughk-cloughk-cloughk-...." and a shot from the throttle and a big snort of blue-tinted smoke from it's nostrel "Clougk-clougrrrrrrrmmmmmmm!!!!"... Air Show Time.

Or atleast that is how I remember it growing up. The sites and sounds of the airshow is a fond memory for me. Growing up in an aviation family, it rivaled baseball and apple pie as all-american. Heck, I thought everybody went field hoppin' on Sunday Afternoons. We sure did. My Dad and I would pull the old J-3 out of the hanger and fly from strip to strip looking for friends and family doing the same. And there was always one or two "hotrods" to put on a good show.

But it all came down to the big shows to really get excited about. Sun-and-Fun, Dayton and Oshkosh were the main events but there were always regional shows to keep up with and around here it is the Great Georgia Airshow at Peachtree City / Falcon Field (KFFC).

Angela, Cub and I went to the home of some good friends to watch the airshow this year. They live in the flight path of Falcon Field and it made it easier to relax. The fellowship with friends and family was as enjoyable as the show. GGAS is sponsored by Delta Air lines and they had the "Pink Lady" do a few fly-by's.

This airplane has a special place in Angela's heart as she was not only a flight attendent for Delta and is friends with a brest cancer surviving FA. Several extrodinarally strong women in her family have fought this battle as well. We always enjoy seeing this one!

Several military aircraft put on demonstrations to the delightment of the crowds.

An F-16 Fighting Falcon put on a dynamic show of beauty and strength.

The F/A 18 Hornet showed it's agility and raw power.

We were even treated to a heritage flight with the F-16 and the north American P-51D Mustang (like many, possibly my favorite aircraft of all)

Cub enjoyed the show and did his best airplane imitation around the yard.

The next day, several of us took ATV, Gators and other off-road vehicles through the woods and found a great spot near the northern threshold and really got a show.

All said and done, this years show was enjoyed by all and we can not wait until next year to do it all again. Keep 'em flying and Smoke On!

Brand New Toy

Mr. Allen finished his model E-75 Boeing Stearman a little over a year ago. I can assure you that this airplane looks more perfect than it did the day it rolled out of the factory in 1943. This is actually Mr. Allen's second stearman. His first wore a U.S. Army livery and is now owned by Pat Hartness of Greenville South Carolina.
